The Gerhard Altenbourg Prize of the Lindenau Museum Altenburg goes to the photographer, object and action artist Dieter Appelt. The prize honours the artist's life's work, the Lindenau Museum announced. The art prize is endowed with a total of 50,000 euros. The artist will receive 10,000 euros personally, while 40,000 euros will go towards a special exhibition and a catalogue.
The exhibition in his honour will open in the summer of 2025 in the Prinzenpalais of the Altenburg Residential Palace. The prize is supported by the Thuringian State Chancellery and the Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Hessen-Thüringen, among others.
