The experimental films of the Anarchistische GummiZelle (AGZ) / Galerie Thomas Schulte Charottenstrasse

Film Screening
As part of the exhibition Mondkalb mit Reibekuchen by Bertram Jesdinsky, we cordially invite you to a special film evening. Jesdinsky was co-founder of the Anarchistische GummiZelle (AGZ), a group of artists who shaped the 1980s with their experimental films.

This evening, we will present a digitized selection of their works—from spontaneous, scriptless Super 8 films made in unusual locations such as the Rhenus-Haus to improvised VHS videos and live performance recordings, including some from the Arsenal cinema in Berlin. We also show clips from Heiner Goebbels' project (Moers Jazz Festival), Materialausgabe-Compilation (1985), and the group's first studio music piece.

With their unconventional productions—including animated everyday objects, toy tanks, and unconventional trips to Germany—AGZ set a post-punk counterpoint to the political and cultural atmosphere of the 1980s. Their work is part of the experimental film scene of the time, alongside groups such as Die tödliche Doris and Schmelzdahin.

We look forward to watching the films with you in the exhibition. The films will be shown in their original version (German, no subtitles). The screening will be accompanied by Konrad Jesdinsky and Stefan Ettlinger, who was also a founding member of AGZ.

Please let us know if you want to join us. Places are limited.
