IPE 130 is a long beam of raw steel polished on one side, measuring 130 cm. The title stands for European I-beam standard (I à Profil Européen) which refers to the construction industry’s nomenclature. Ann Veronica Janssens tilts the austere, utilitarian, blind object into the light, creating an effect of liquefaction and shimmering metal. As the mirrored surface reflects its surroundings, the work gains an additional, spatial dimension, a form of depth.

The work belongs to a series begun in 2009 that comprises eight IPE beams of various sizes.
